We just have one suggestion this week that comes from Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood (PBS Kids). If your child enjoys making their “My Bedtime Book”, then you can also create a bedtime story together.
“My Bedtime Routine” book
Creating a “My Bedtime Routine” book can help your child understand and follow the steps to get ready for bed. Customize the book to include the steps in your family’s routine. *This could be a handy way to help other caregivers know how to get your child to bed if you’re not around.
Materials
Pictures from magazines or photographs of your child
Index cards or paper
Glue, tape, or stapler
Hole punch
Notebook ring, yarn, or string
Crayons or markers
Directions
- Have your child cut out pictures from magazines to create a bedtime routine book. You could even make simple drawings of different things children do to get ready for bed, like:- Put toys away
– Put on pajamas
– Brush teeth
– Wash face and hands
– Talk about your day
– Read an agreed number of bedtime books together
– Kiss and hug goodnight
- Together you can make a book about your child’s bedtime routine using the pictures. Paste or tape on picture of the routine to each index card or piece of paper. Your child can color the card, and you can add words, as well.
- Punch a hole in the corner of each of sheet so they can be held together with a notebook ring, yarn, or string to make this your child’s own personalized bedtime book.
