It’s time for real talk. Talking about race and racism can be sensitive, but too often taboos and difficult topics prevent us from being open. If ever there was a time to embrace being uncomfortable, it’s now.
- Set an example
Learn more so you can have informed conversations and be a bridge builder - Help your child navigate curiosity about race
Answer the questions you child has, but be okay that you may not always have all the answers - Make it relatable to their life
Racism can be hard to understand, so start with the idea of unfairness (all children get that concept!) - Be open about addressing mistakes
“Parents should be open and honest with their kids about their implicit biases. It doesn’t make us bad people, it just makes us people” - Be an advocate
Allow people to speak for themselves and give support to those who need it
